Po-Chuan Chiang, D.M.A.

Po-Chuan Chiang, D.M.A. is a dedicated and accomplished pianist and educator. With a diverse educational background and a passion for the piano, Dr. Chiang has made significant contributions to the field through performance, teaching, and adjudication. Currently serving as Staff Pianist Coordinator at Western Illinois University (WIU), he plays a pivotal role in coordinating collaborative piano assignments for ensembles, recitals, and applied studios. He also provides coaching and teaching to students and actively performs with guest artists and faculty members.

His dedication to collaborative piano extends beyond the university campus. He has lent his expertise to various music festivals, competitions, and events, including the Illinois Music Educators Association Music Festival, Peoria Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, and NATS competitions. His versatility and skill as a collaborative pianist have been acknowledged and sought after by musicians and organizations alike. During the summers, Dr. Chiang has worked as a pianist for the opera program Scuola Italia in Sant’Angelo in Vado, Italy, at Interlochen Center for the Arts, and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp.

In addition to his work as a collaborative pianist, Dr. Chiang has a rich history in teaching piano students of all ages and levels. He was co-director and faculty of WIU’s 2022 piano camp for the Summer Music Institute and temporarily served as piano instructor at Monmouth College.Additionally, he has been invited to give masterclasses to piano students and chamber ensembles at National University of the Arts, Walla Walla University, and the University of South Alabama.
